Palestinian Refugees Search for Survivors After Gaza Airstrike

An airstrike hit central Gaza in the Nuseirat Camp on Friday killing at least 41 people with dozens remaining buried under the rubble. With the war in its second month, those who managed to flee Israel’s ground invasion in northern Gaza were encountering scarcity of security in the south. Over 1.5 million people in Gaza are estimated to be internally displaced, including about 778,000 IDPs who are staying in at least 154 UNRWA shelters. The Palestinian Health Ministry in the West Bank said Thursday that 11,470 Palestinians have been killed in the Gaza Strip since the Israel-Hamas war broke out six weeks ago. The vast majority have been killed in Israeli airstrikes that have pounded the besieged territory since Hamas’ assault on southern Israel on Oct. 7. The ministry said 4,707 of the dead were children and minors and that 3,155 were women. The ministry does not differentiate between combatants and civilians.
