“Mr. President, before I proceed may I make it very clear that my
delegation & I have no desire at all, it is not our intention to wound
the feelings & the sensibilities of any member nation or any delegation
represented here in this General Assembly. But we are here to discuss a
very important question, and my delegation feels that we have to express
our ideas here freely & w/o reservation irrespective of whatever
consequences my words my have on the views, the opposing views, of any
delegation on this particular have to make crystal clear
our position, our belief as to the meaning & understanding of the word
Independence contained in this Declaration.
