Trudeau defends pandemic spending following Bank of Canada inflation remarks

Speaking during Thursday’s session of question period in Ottawa’s House of Commons, Conservative Party Leader Pierre Poilievre grilled Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau about inflation rates, government deficits and affordability. Poilievre said that the Bank of Canada confirmed on Wednesday that if the government reduced its deficits, the country would have lower inflation, adding each Canadian has to pay around $3,500 more due to inflation. To this, Trudeau defended his government’s spending on pandemic measures, climate change initiatives and more. “We were there to support people, so we could all get through the pandemic as best as possible,“ the prime minister said, adding Canada’s return to a “thriving“ economy was “faster“ than other nations.
