Royal Duchy Expresses Steam Train through Dawlish

Yesterday we saw the third of four Royal Duchy Expresses passing the sea walls of Dawlish and Teignmouth. The tour started from Slough, diesel hauled, and goes to Par in Cornwall. The steam engine replaces the diesel for the section from Taunton to Plymouth and the Plymouth to Taunton part on the return from Par. The locomotive hauling the 9 coaches was another member of the LMS Jubilee class of powerful three cylinder machines 45690 named after the warship HMS Leander when built in 1936. This locomotive unlike 45596 Bahamas with its double chimney that was on the previous Royal Duchy, has a single chimney as did the vast proportion of the 191 that were built at Crewe.
