End of an Era - Dinosaur Extinction

End of an Era (An updated version of this video with a voiceover can be viewed here: ). This is a short film outlining the events surrounding the extinction of the dinosaurs, 66 million years ago. The extinction was provoked by the impact of an asteroid (possibly a comet) some 10 to 14 km across, near present-day Mexico. The crater today has been buried under ocean sediments but is still readily detectable with the appropriate tools. The blast threw up a layer of iridium - rare in the Earth’s crust but common in asteroids - that covered the entire planet. The impact ended the Cretaceous period and the Mesozoic era, and paved for way for the Cenozoic in which we now live. It is known as the k-pg mass extinction. This film was created using Autodesk 3ds Max, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe After Effects. T-rex and triceratops animated 3D models created by Virtual Creature on .
