My grandad thinks my family comes from Ireland, but he also thinks we’re from Scotland. I asked him how far he could trace back our family tree and he said the ’30s... “1830s?“ I asked. “1930s“ he confirmed. (Dude was born in 1931). Safe to say, this conversation left both of us none the wiser.
Nonetheless, I’ve had a soft spot for this Irish folk song ever since I was a child. Perhaps my favourite of all time. It’s more commonly heard in 4/4 but I found 6/8 helped it flow better on the piano.
