It reached #1 in Belgium Ultratop 50, #1 in Sweden, #2 on the UK Singles Chart, #4 on the US Billboard Hot 100, #4 in New Zealand and #15 on the US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. “Let’s Dance 1972“ is a song about popular dance steps in the 1960s such as The Twist, The Stomp, and the Mashed Potato. The song was written and produced by Jim Lee. The original 1962 recording featured Joel Hill on guitar, Ray Johnson on organ, Ray Pohlman on bass guitar, and Jesse Sailes on drums. In 1972, the song was re-released as an “oldie“ coupled with the Shirelles’ “Will You Love Me Tomorrow“ in Europe. However, the record company, London Records, quickly removed the Shirelles’ cut and replaced it with the original flip side “You’re the One“ due to radio play. As a result, the recording reached the top five for a second time in both Britain and Germany. Chris Montez is an American guitarist and vocalist who started his music career in the late 1950s. He is known for his hit songs “Let’s Dance 1972“ and “The More I See You“.
