Backstage With Sooty (1966)

London and Leeds. A workshop in Leeds provides the mechanics behind the Sooty and Sweep show. Various shots as a lid flips up on a little house and Sweep looks round, he is radio controlled by Harry Corbett who waves at him and he waves back. Harry knocks on the top of Sooty’s house who peers out of the door and windows. M/S of Sooty in Leeds with Bill Garrett the engineer who creates the mechanics, Sooty helpfully turns some knobs on a mechanism. Various shots of a toy car and fire engine, Bill’s wife sews things for Sooty’s caravan. Bill works on ’Enery the robot, he fixes his eyes, antenna, nose and moustache. The mechanics move his head and make smoke come out of his ears. M/S of a little girl waving a wand at Sooty’s stage show. Sooty and Harry are at an organ, Sooty tries to oil the keys which pop up and he tries to press them down. He tries to fix the organ with a screwdriver and when this doesn’t work hits it with a hammer instead. Cuts exist please see separate record. FILM
