Paris shooting: Memories of riots resurface, posing a political challenge for Macron

Thousands of extra police officers are being deployed around Paris and other major French cities following last night’s riots. The violence came after a 17-year old boy, identified only as Nael M, was shot by police during a routine check in a suburb of the capital. The officers reportedly believed they were in danger as the driver had threatened to run them over, but this is account has been rejected by the victim’s family. Their lawyers cited a video circulating online which shows two police officers leaning into the driver-side window of a yellow car, before the vehicle pulls away and one officer fires towards the driver.
