I was first to fight Hamas after the massacre – the smell of death haunts me, says Brit soldier
British Israeli soldier Sam Sank witnessed horrific atrocities on the frontline while battling Hamas and said his life will never be the same again.
The Spurs fan, raised in north London, woke up to sirens in Tel Aviv on the morning of October 7 and was kitted out on base, gun in hand by 4pm that afternoon.
He turned to his girlfriend as they hid in the bomb shelter of their building and said: “Okay, we’re in a war, and I’m going to get called up.”
For the next two months Sam, 33, was pulled from the IDF reservists to take down Hamas terrorists and launch rescue operations for the hostages being held in Gaza tunnels.
Two days after the atrocities of October 7, when Hamas slaughtered, kidnapped, raped and destroyed families and towns, Sam was sent to Kibbutz Kfar Aza.
Around 70 Hamas terrorists stormed the village where over 700 people lived.
