“General Who Doesn’t Know the Front Doesn’t Serve Ukraine“ Zelensky Sacks Army Chief Zaluzhny
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky fired his army chief Valerii Zaluzhnyi in the biggest military shake-up since Russia’s invasion began. Zaluzhnyi, who led Ukraine forces throughout the war so far, was replaced by the commander of the ground forces, Colonel-General Oleksandr Syrsky. Zelenskiy’s political opponents have criticised him for the vagueness of his statements about why he wants to replace Zaluzhnyi. Zelensky’s decision to dismiss the army chief is seen as a risky move for him, given Zaluzhnyi’s high approval ratings among Ukrainians.
