Tōru Takemitsu - Equinox — David Antigüedad, guitar [w/ score]

Equinox (1993) is Tōru Takemitsu’s penultimate piece for solo guitar dedicated to Kiyoshi Shomura and premiered by him in Tokyo on 4th April, 1994. Taking the title and inspiration from Joan Miro’s namesake painting, Takemitsu captures an enormous yet delicate universe of impressionistic sounds in a small-format piece, in which every gesture and every resonance bear crucial importance within the overall structure. Incidentally, it is worth mentioning that Takemitsu evokes Johann Sebastian Bach, whom he deeply admired, by using the musical quote that relates sounds to the composer’s acronym (known as the B A C H motif), something he had already done in Folios (1974).
