This is a fun funk tune to play. It’s not flashy but it’s a great song that warms up your picking arm and keeps you from straying from the groove. This song is about finding the groove and staying in the pocket. Once that happens, your fingers and do the rest. What I found most challenging was staying out of the piano player’s way during those short piano breaks during each of the verses. As all great front man, James Brown drives the band. Even though this was a recording I played along to, I found myself following his lead as to when to transition to the other parts of the song. Playing funk grooves can feel monotonous if you don’t have the right mindset. So once you are locked in with the band, enjoy the ride and listening to what the other players are doing. FIND ME AT:
