Frank Sinatra - That’s Life (ProleteR Tribute 2023)

This iconic song from the ultimate crooner is a bit of a landmark for me as a producer When I randomly stumbled upon this track on a record I bought at a thrift shop, I had never heard it before, and I guess at that point I was just looking for new material to sample, but as I started to chop it and create a loop, I guess at some point I looped a vocal part and added a quick drum pattern over it and instantly that felt right, it was sounding so good that pretty soon I just decided not to chop it and try to create a new beat out of it, but rather make some kind of rework, a remix, and keeping it very close to the original version, the point of this process was that I could bring some modern arrangements to this kinda amazing, but still pretty dated classic track, (which I found out was quite a fun and thrilling thing to do production wise) Eventually, that gave me the idea to make more of those “tribute“ to standard, humbly trying to infuse them with a hint of my signature sound, and that lead to the creation of the “Tribute to the Masters“ series I first released this tribute back in 2012, and it’s after I saw the movie “The Joker“ , in which there’s a version of “That’s life“ by Ellis Drane and his jazz orchestra, that I decided to make a new edit of my tribute. The horns arrangements in Drane’s version was just too appealing for me, I couldn’t resist to try and see how it could sound if I blended those horns with my tribute, that was already some time ago, the track has been in my closet for a while, I would just work on it here and there, and then just forget about it, till now... “That’s LIfe“ was written and composed by Dean Kay and Kelly Gordon Performed by Frank Sinatra Produced, reworked and mixed by ProleteR Cuts by Mendosam Additional sax played by Pierre Ramade
