Burkina Faso Leader Ibrahim Traore Says Elections Not A Priority Compared To Security - Nearly a year after staging a coup in Burkina Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traore, who had previously pledged a return to presidential elections by July 2024, stated on Friday that elections would only take place once the nation is secure enough to ensure the safety of all voters. He also revealed intentions to amend the constitution to better reflect the interests and concerns of the general population. The head of Burkina Faso’s military junta said that elections would take place only when the security conditions allow for it. Meanwhile, in the capital, hundreds of his supporters convened at the Place de la Nation in Ouagadougou, proudly waving the Burkinabe flags and displaying signs featuring images of the interim president, Captain Ibrahim Traore. On September 30, 2022, Traore assumed control, removing the leader of a previous coup who had deposed President Roch Kabore just eight months earlier. This shift occurred amid a deteriorating security situation aggravated by armed groups associated with al-Qaeda and the Islamic State. The coups were met with approval by many citizens who were tired of the deadly violence and disenchanted with their government. However, they were criticized by Western nations, which perceived their influence diminishing as democracy receded in the Sahel region of West Africa. ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ ✅SUPPORT US /AFFILIATE LINKS Use this affiliate link for your purchases at #MIZIZI International - Support our channel - PayPal: newafricachannel(at) Follow us on Instagram - Follow us on Twitter - Join us on Facebook - ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ ✅COPYRIGHT DISCLAIMER The New Africa Channel doesn’t fully own some of the materials compiled in its videos.
