It has evolved from the ‘300’s Tuscan. In this language the poet Dante Alighieri wrote the “Divina Commedia”. From that moment the ‘300’s Tuscan started to be used as a language of the culture in Italy, and Tuscan dialects began to evolve on the one hand, and the Standard Italian on the other.
