Many of my students have problems with this and I want to show you step by step the differences between WILL, WOULD and WOULD HAVE been. A simple way to explain it is that WILL is something real, WOULD is usually a prediction of a future event. WOULD HAVE been is the third conditional and this is when we imagine different possibilities about a past event. We cannot change the past but we use WOULD HAVE BEEN to imagine different possible events in the past.
