Sylvain Barou, one of the most captivating flutists of our time, is rooted in the Breton and Irish music tradition. With abundant musical encounters, he opened his mind further east.
The beginning of his personal “Silk Street” Sylvain Barou began with learning classical Indian Bansuri/Hindustani music, then his interest in modal music continued to Turkey, Armenia, Iran and Azerbaijan where he intensively learned Duduk and Zurna and adapted these styles and techniques to his original main instrument, the wooden flute (which is usually only heard in the context of Celtic music... )
