On-point: S. Korea, U.S. kick off joint military drills; what to expect on Korean Peninsula in March? 온포인트: 오늘부터 한미 연합훈련, 군 정찰위성 1호기 평양 촬영 3월 한반도 정세는? Starting today for the next 10 days, South Korea and the U.S. are staging joint military drills against ever-growing North Korean threats. The exercises will be double the size of last year’s Freedom Shield drills. For more, we turn to Professor Brian Myers. Good morning. 1. So the scale of the drills will be twice as big. What’s the reason behind increasing the scale? 2. South Korea’s first military spy satellite has reportedly managed to successfully transmit “good-resolution“ images of central areas of North Korea’s capital Pyongyang back home following the satellite’s launch in December. How big of a deal is this? (Reducing dependence on U.S. satellite imagery?) 3. South Korea’s defense chief said last week that the North’s spy satellite launched last November is not doing anything productive. Is that how it’s looking so far? 4. Will the annual Seoul-Washington exercises get on the North’s nerves? Could they potentially trigger provocations from the North? 5. European embassies in North Korea are looking to reopen after 4 years of being closed due to pandemic. Why is the North now allowing them to come back? Because of South Korea and Cuba’s newly forged diplomatic ties? Thanks so much for your insight as always. Have a good day. #SouthKorea #UnitedStates #Combined_military_exercise #Freedom_Shield #FS #대한민국 #미국 #자유의_방패 #한미_연합_훈련 #Arirang_News #아리랑뉴스 📣 Facebook : 📣 Twitter : 📣 Homepage : 2024-03-04, 09:00 (KST)
