Prince Philip dead at 99: A look back on the Duke of Edinburgh’s incredible life
The Queen today announced with ’deep sorrow’ the death of her husband Prince Philip at the age of 99, her ’strength and guide’ throughout their 73-year marriage and her 69-year reign.
To honor the Duke, we take a look back on his incredible life. He escaped Greece as a baby, stowed in a makeshift cot made from an orange box. He lived in France, Germany, England and Scotland.
At 21, he was one of the youngest 1st lieutenants in the Royal Navy and was praised for his role in the Second World War. He went on marry Elizabeth, the future Queen of England and become her greatest source of support.
