IS JAPAN COOL? MATSURI with Kodo

This piece was composed to an image of a clear blue sky and towering cloud . Low-register sounds by hiradoh-oh-daiko (large flat-barrel drums) support the whole work and light oke-doh-daiko (long-barrel drums carried on players’ shoulders) freely add variable rhythmic beats while three fue (flutes) play melody like a hot yet dry refreshing breeze. Energetic festival drumming, cicada chirps, wind passing over paddy fields, lanterns lined up in a shrine precinct — this piece lets listeners experience a Japanese landscape.
