James Demon: The Devil’s Toy Chest (Coincidence)

Beatport: Bandcamp: It took a while before this release saw the light of day, but we are really happy it’s here: an EP by one of our favourite producers - and Occultists label owner: James Demon. As a little demon, James rave roots found fertile soil in the 90ies Happy Hardcore scene. As time went by, his taste shifted towards Techno, EBM and Electro, eventually landing on Techno. It all influenced his producer style, as you will clearly hear in the tracks that are now in front of you. Four tracks, four dark Techno tracks, yet with each a very distinct flavour: if anything, ’Dark Sacraments’ is very versatile indeed. The title track is hard hitting Techno with an amazing dark ’temple of doom’- atmosphere underneath. Second track ’Alucard’s Dream’ might be a bit more higher in BPM, but it somehow sounds more melancholic and deep. Third track ’Walking on Water’ is at first a heavy hitter with hints to older Electro Techno tracks, but the surprising trancey break and leads suddenly paint a gorgeous landscape - the kind where dreams are made of. ’The Devil’s Toy Chest’ finally has little to do with pirates, but it is my highlight of the EP: at first full of Nu-Rave promise, but gradually turning into Trance and full of hidden and strange sounds that make it absolutely amazing. If you ask me, this is one of the label’s highlights, so I can’t wait for you to hear these tracks and maybe hear you play them on the dance floors.
