Whooping Cough (Day 27)

Child (age 4) awoke from an afternoon nap due to a paroxysmal coughing attack. The cough began mild in intensity on June 13, 2013. She did not suffer a fever or other symptoms in the first two weeks. Initial differential diagnosis: acute bronchitis. Cough progressed to include a whooping sound during week 3, with associated vomiting from cough and abdominal spasm. Diagnosis: Whooping Cough/Pertussis. During week 2-3 she awoke every 1-2 hours during the night from the cough. On July 3-4, she suffered mild fever. During week 4, she only awoke approximately 2 times during the night. Improving.
