Initially Tesla Boy goal was to aim high for Russian pop music, but very soon its sound found fans all over the world. Both sides of the Atlantic have been watching their growth with eager interest. Their gig at the Chess and Jazz festival by all means can be defined as a game changer. Anton distanced himself resolutely from the distinctive synthpop element in his music, turning to his roots. Famous hits obtained new arrangements, full of audacious jazz improvisations and tireless energy of funk. The transformation was notably obvious in the Reputation, where Anton left the role of a synthpop romantic, trying on the image a dark knight. His voice was noticeably deeper and heroically sounded with the brass section. The 1991 prophetic track changed into a real nine-minute Odyssey with early disco in the beginning, smoothly turning into a Sunday service calling out to us: “Don’t look behind, your life will never, never be the same again”. Apart from the new sound, the album also has a special release date: July 22 is the birthday Oleg Sevidov, Anton’s father. Thus Anton to paid tribute to someone who laid the first cornerstone at the foundation of his love for music, love that Tesla Boy has been carrying on in its sound.
