I guess the aim of this compilation is similar, but with Bob Dylan’s songs substituted for tofu and carrot or something. In other words - here’s an attempt to show that forgoing a diet based on his more well known and celebrated work from before 1989 will not necessarily have a deleterious impact on one’s aural health or enjoyment. Or, to put it another way - Bob has written some f*cking ace songs in his Mod years. What prompted this collection was me thinking that if Bob isn’t going to give us a follow up to Shadow Kingdom based on his ’late’ songs, then I might as well do it myself, or as near as damnit. So, using Oh Mercy as the pivot between the two works, here’s 35 live performances dating from 1989 to 2023, covering songs recorded between 1989 and 2020 - whether as outtakes, one-off releases or official album tracks. Of course, there’s a goodly amount of said songs to choose from, not to mention a billion combinations of live shows to trawl through, but I’ve tried to present a smorgasbord of juicy bites which could hopefully persuade even the most nutty “Bob was only good in the 60s“ freak to allow a little sizzling chargrilled late 20th and early 21st Century deliciousness into their (quite frankly shrivelled and prissily puckered) way of thinking hole. ...
