School bus horror on M53: Up to 50 injured, one with major trauma

A major incident has been declared after a horror school bus crash on the M53 in Merseyside left up to 50 people injured and one female passenger with “major trauma-related injuries“. The crash happened just after 8am on Friday morning on the southbound carriageway of the motorway, close to junction 5. The school bus was believed to be carrying schoolchildren at the time. A huge emergency response was launched, with police, fire and ambulance crews all racing to the scene. Around 10 police vehicles, four fire engines and five ambulances attended the incident. The bus driver and several passengers were trapped inside the vehicle and had to be rescued by firefighters. The injured were taken to hospitals across Merseyside and Cheshire.
