Lindy Hop & Charleston Performance 2022 - Sondre & Tanya

As promised in the description of the first video from this event: ( ) I share my thoughts of the last weeks here: They are not related to this particular dance, but I would like to share them anyway. In the last couple of months, I have discovered the very concept of “brotherhood“, which I have often heard in my life. Last Easter was a key turning point. A week before, we were invited to a local church in the village of Dovre (20 minutes from Dombås). It was very unexpected, because Norway is a Protestant country and I have not yet seen Orthodox churches here. As it turned out later, it wasn’t an Orthodox community inviting us. It was priests and a couple of locals who decided to organize a small holiday for the Ukrainian refugees. They treated our tradition with such trepidation, brought icons, painted eggs, brought candles, held a small service in Ukrainian and Norwegian languages, and even recorded our anthem performed by organ and violin right in this church. A local woman baked Easter bread and was apologising that it did not really made according to the tradition. The children were allowed to play right in the church, no one yelled or hissed at them. It was so touching not about politics, but philanthropy. Details. Caring for the little things was standing out. One of such was tea. There was a can of tea put next to the can of coffee. What was so special about it? The fact that Norwegians usually do not drink tea. You will find coffee in every celebration, but tea is highly unusual. And this feeling when you know about such nuance and see a thermos with tea specially brewed for you that day. They really tried FOR US. That feeling when people on their day off did everything possible to make us feel good, put their soul into every little thing, opened the doors of their church and accepted us as if we had known each other for hundred years. And there was nothing pompous, condescending or arrogant about it (like “poor you“, now we will show off how sorry we are to satisfy the press). Everything was real, from a pure heart, because what else should real Christians do. I looked around and saw only women of different ages, with and without children. Someone is from Sumy and she doesn’t have home any more. She is a lawyer and works online. Someone is from Korosten and she used to have a wealthy comfortable life with her beloved husband and children. Someone will never come back, and someone is looking forward to returning ... So many little stories of one big tragedy. During the service, everyone cried. And everyone was having their own thought to cry about. It was one more insight for me. Why some, hiding behind the concept of “freedom“, “love“ and “brotherhood“, kill and home deprive, while others, so “foreign“, open their doors and hearts and do not expect anything in return. We drove back inspired in some special reverent mood. The feeling of love and gratitude overflowed. I didn’t really want to talk, I just wanted to look around, absorb this feeling and life itself.
