Dylan was in a Melancholy Mood at the Beacon Theatre 11/21/2021

Like Dylan, I too felt melancholy last November when I saw how the video of this short Sinatra cover turned out. So it starts with stills, then some jumpy footage, but finally settles into a very watchable video about halfway through. At least the sound is nice throughout. When it comes to Dylan, I guess something is always better than nothing. The song appears on the second of Dylan’s three “American Songbook“ albums, “Fallen Angels,“ and was originally recorded by Frank Sinatra with Harry James and his orchestra. Written by Walter Schumann and Vick R. Knight, Sr., it was the B-side of Sinatra’s very first single, released in 1939. The A-side tune was “From the Bottom of My Heart.“ Neither song charted, but somehow Frank Sinatra eventually found success in spite of that.
