Winter Turns - Grand Canyon, AZ - 8K Aerial

I’ve been very, very fortunate to film the Grand Canyon for many projects over the last decade from the helicopter. It’s majestic stature inspires so many. As iconic as it is, there’s always a surprise to be found at different times of the year and in different parts of the canyon. This particular take was filmed during the transition at the end of Winter as snow still sits above the canyon on flat land above, but within this particular slot canyon the geothermal heat from the Earth is slowly defrosting the vegetation with faint traces of ice melting away on the canyon walls as Winter’s grasp loosens. As always, best enjoyed in a dark room on a large screen, and in this case best watched in 8K as YouTube’s scaler/encoder has issues downsampling high frequency detail, which can be seen in the 4K version. Filmed on RED Monstro 8K VV with a Tokina Cinema Vista 18mm T1.5 Prime in realtime at 24fps. Music licensed via Musicbed. I’m always filming somewhere.
