Farouk At Opera Museum (1951)

Cairo, Egypt. King Farouk at Opera museum, where a precious work by Gemito has been offered by the Italian government. Verdi’s connection with Egypt include a performance of ’Rigoletto’ given in the presence of Ismail Pasha, Emperor Francis Joseph and other reigning sovereigns during the festivities held for the opening of the Suez Canal. 2 years later 24th December 1871 the opera ’Aida’ made its 1st triumphal appearance - the artists wore precious gems and costumes offered to the theatre by Ismail Pasha, grandfather of the present sovereign. After seeing the Italian relics, the Sovereign will be present on the gala night at the Royal Opera House in Cairo, where each year a lyrical season with Italian artist. LV.
