The unbreakable bond between Queen Elizabeth II and her Canadian horse
From 1969 to 1986, Queen Elizabeth II rode only one horse for all her public events and parades: a striking black mare from Canada named Burmese.
Born in Saskatchewan, Burmese was bred to be a police horse for the RCMP -- but when the Queen was looking for a new riding horse, Burmese was offered to her as a gift instead.
Dawna Friesen looks back at the monarch’s special bond with her favourite steed, and how the pair overcame a terrifying moment in 1981.
