The narration was also written by Heydecker and John Leeb; the film was directed by Felix Von Podmanitzky and produced by Joseph Harris. The movie tells the story of the Nuremberg trials, contrasted with events that took place before and during WWII, as the Germans took over much of continental Europe and began a reign of terror. Chilling testimonies by the defendants (who do not show any signs of remorse) are shown, including that of Herrmann Göring, Alfred Seyss-Inquart, Rudolf Hess, Konstantin von Neurath, Joachim von Ribbentrop, and Alfred Rosenberg. Part 2 looks at the defeat of Nazi Germany with footage from Stalingrad and the Eastern Front, and from D-Day, through the arrival of American troops in Germany. The film chronicles the horrific crimes of Joseph Goebbels and other German leaders. Footage from the Bergen-Belsen, Dachau, and Auschwitz extermination camps is shown, contrasted against the criminal proceedings against Göring, Kaltenbrunner, Sauckel, von Neurath, and Fritzsche testifying and making their final pleas. At the end of the film, Karl Herrmann Franz is led to the gallows and executed. The Nuremberg trials were held between 1945-46 by the Allies against representatives of the defeated Nazi Germany, for plotting and carrying out invasions of other countries, and crimes against humanity. The trial served as the foundation for international criminal law. 0:08 Street fight scenes from the battle of Stalingrad, 1:38 German prisoners being led down the Red Square in Moscow, 3:00 Field Marshal Friedrich von Paulus on the witness stand, 4:12 pictures of mass graves at Katyn, 4:38 Hitler playing with his German shepherd, 4:46 Heydrich Himmler, 4:56 Joseph Goebbels arriving in a car, 5:35 Eva Braun doing gymnastics and swimming, 6:34 children at kindergarten and in the Hitler Youth, 7:12 POWs dig trenches, 7:40 Goebbels giving his “Total War” speech, 8:20 different shots of Goebbels, 8:51 Goebbels at a mass rally for Otto Skorzeny (Also shown), 9:34 Hitler meeting Walter Funk, Heinrich Lammers, Göring, and Goebbels, 10:22 Admiral Karl Dönitz on the witness stand, 11:22 D-Day landing armada and hundreds jumping out of planes, 12:57 German troops firing at landing paratroopers, 13:43 gliders taking off, 14:05 liberation of Paris, 14:26 French resistance and American troops arresting German soldiers, 15:17 victory parade on the Champs Elysees with Charles de Gaulle walking at the front, 15:43 flooded cities in the Netherlands after the flood gates were opened, 16:10 fighting in rural France, 16:25 overview of the ruins of Oradour sur Glane, 17:07 SS officer being executed, 17:15 German planes being shot down in dogfights, 17:56 a V-1 buzz bomb midair, 18:16 V-2 rocket taking off followed by two exploding on site, 18:54 Mussolini and Hitler meeting at the Brenner Pass, 19:26 Mussolini being hung upside down in Milan, 19:40 Churchill signing an artillery shell, 20:25 aerial bombardment of Germany, 20:45 street fighting in Cologne including a shot of the Cologne Cathedral, 21:50 Americans crossing a bridge on the Rhine river, 22:36 American troops in Frankfurt am Main, 23:50 captured German soldiers, 24:07 American troops reaching Baden-Baden, 24:24 White flags hanging outside of windows, 24:35 Soviet troops fighting in Berlin, 25:22 refugees leaving the occupied areas 26:24 Göring on the witness bench, 26:46 General Eisenhower being shown torture methods at a concentration camp, 27:00 thousands of corpses at Bergen Belsen along with starving survivors, 28:22 Dachau concentration camp, 29:05 corpses at Auschwitz, 29:19 lampshades and other objects made from the skin of dead prisoners, 29:41 Ernst Kaltenbrunner on the witness stand, 30:00 burned and rotting corpses, 30:30 Concentration camp staff shown including female guards, 31:13 Heinrich Himmler inspecting SS troops, 31:43 Kaltenbrunner on the witness stand, 32:10 conclusion of the tribunal 32:44 Wilhelm Keitel, Fritz Sauckel, von Papen, Albert Speer, Konstantin von Neurath, Hans Fritzsche enter final pleas, 37:44 all rise as trial has ended, 37:53 Karl Herrmann Franz on way to the gallows, 38:13 execution of Franz, 38:42 corpses of von Ribbentrop, Keitel, and Goering, 39:08 list of the verdicts This film is part of the Periscope Film LLC archive, one of the largest historic military, transportation, and aviation stock footage collections in the USA.
