Follow me on Twitter @ DESCRIPTION// A tribute to the 1961 John Huston film “The Misfits“ starring Marilyn Monroe, Clark Gable and Montgomery Clift. “The Misfits“ (1961) A sexy divorcée falls for an over-the-hill cowboy who is struggling to maintain his romantically independent lifestyle in early-sixties Nevada. Before I watched this film for the first time, I read a disclaimer on Tumblr that stated- “Don’t watch The Misfits if you ever want to be happy again“. I completely ignored this, naturally. However, for days and days and days after, I couldn’t get this film out of my mind. The tormented actors, the tormented characters. While this isn’t a film that leaves you excited from start to finish, it is a riveting filmic experience and will leave you with a profound feeling of sadness afterwards. I can understand why this film wasn’t recieved better when it was made, it is only in hindsight that the audience can truly realise how much this film mirrored the real lives of its actors. I CAN’T FILM *tears* OMG, I loved Montgomery Clift in this WAS IT NOT ROSLYN AND PERCE!! He saved the horses for her, he cared about her when she was tossed to the understood each other!! Perce was such a sweetheart, I was clutching my heart as he let the horses go, tears streaming down my face. I THIS FILM! I let this film down with my ridiculously bad editing. I am so disappointed with how this turned out. I have so much love for this film and the actors in it, I tried so hard to express that love through this it came out all wrong! It’s too focused on the horses unfortunately and I know some viewers will refuse to watch because of that. THE TRAGIC MISFITS. Clark Gable (1901- 1960) Suffered a heart attack two days after filming ended and died ten days later. Marilyn Monroe (1926- 1962) Marilyn’s last completed film. She died within a year and a half of the release of the film due to a probable suicide. Montgomery Clift (1920- 1966) Deeply troubled, Monty died of a heart attack (due to prolonged abuse of prescription medications and alcohol) 5 years after the completion of the film. The night he died, “The Misfits“ was playing on television. His last known words were said to be “absolutely not“ when asked if he wanted to watch the film before retiring to bed.
