Follow ► Inspiration behind this video: While One Piece is already the best-selling manga of all time, the live-action series allows for viewers unfamiliar with anime and manga to see Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates’ journey from the very beginning. Additionally, One Piece benefits from Oda’s involvement, the creator working closely with Netflix on the series. The many familiar scenes and references throughout the trailer indicate One Piece will be faithful to its source material as it chronicles the start of Luffy’s journey. However, American anime adaptations have traditionally not been as successful as the source material they’re based on. Cowboy Bebeop was cancelled after one season by Netflix. The live-action series received criticism from anime fans and original creator Shinichirō Watanabe for straying too far from the source material.
