Making a Signet Ring with Engraved Gemstone | Intaglio of Blue Layered Onyx and 18kt White Gold Ring

Watch the Updated Version of this Video here: -------------------- Watch the VICTOR MAYER team of artisans create a signet ring in 18 carat white gold with a blue layered onyx signet stone. Follow us step by step as we show you how this custom piece is created by expert hands. The goldsmith forges the shape and refines the surface of the cast ring with great care. Highest quality standards for us mean a flawless surface and great wearing comfort. The stone cutter slices the signet stone from natural boulders before it is then shaped to the right shape by hand and the essential facets are finished by hand. Setting the oval layer stone is a great challenge for the gem-setter. The ring is individually adjusted to the stone and the mounting is carved into the ring. Then, in several steps, the stone is carefully fixed securely in the precious metal mounting by pushing the white gold. A so-called bright cut is created around the set gemstone with a chisel - a smooth gradient from the precious metal to the gemstone. The gem engraver creates a rough sketch of the griffin on the seal stone and engraves the intaglio in many individual steps freehand. Intaglio is the name of the technique, with a deepened engraving of the illustration. The processing is mirrored and inverted so that the seal imprint correctly depicts the motif. The engraver also works in three dimensions to create a negative relief. Finally, the seal stone is polished on a rotating disc and lastly - as proof of the correct work - a seal impression is made for the customer. Finally, the ring is carefully polished and all components are subjected to a final quality check - before the customer can receive his or her very own masterpiece of the art of goldsmithing. The international reputation of the VICTOR MAYER workshop is based on the exceptional know-how of our craftsmen. We use techniques that are almost extinct today.
