Moscow, 7 November 1991 - Thousands of people demonstrate in the streets of the Soviet capital against the counterrevolutionary coup and the dissolution of the Soviet Union. ************* A referendum on the future of the Soviet Union was held on 17 March 1991. The results were: - (%) million votes in favor of the USSR. - (%) million votes against the USSR. - (%) million invalid/blank votes. The popular vote was not respected by the counterrevolutionary forces.
