French Foreign Legionnaires kill two jihadists in Mali - March 2020

A squadron of the 1st Foreign Cavalry Regiment intercepts two jihadists in the Liptako Gourma region, close to the borders of Mali, Niger and Burkina Faso. Jihadists might have belonged to the Islamic State in the Greater Sahara. March 2020 Opération Barkhane is a French-led operation taking place in Mauritania, Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger and Chad. These countries have gathered in the G5 Sahel to coordinate their efforts against terrorist groups. Opération Barkhane was launched on August 1, 2014 and has been tasked with fighting islamist insurgency in Sahel region, after the victorious French-Malian offensive to recapture Northern Mali from these groups.
