The winery was discovered by archaeologists during excavations of the Bosporan Kingdom on the Taman Peninsula during the construction of the Crimean Bridge in 2017, and it dates back to the 1st-2nd centuries AD. “Recreating the ancient winery is a tribute to our land, which has given grapes and excellent wine both in ancient times and today. It is a way to demonstrate that Russian winemaking also has ancient roots... In my opinion, this is a unique event in the world. Thanks to the blueprint provided to us by the archaeologists, we tried to recreate everything as closely as possible, centimeter by centimeter,“ said Petr Romanishin, General Director of “Fanagoria,“ at the opening ceremony.
