Alfred Brendel KBE (born 5 January 1931) is an Austrian pianist, born in Czechoslovakia of German, Italian and Slavonic descent, who currently resides in the United Kingdom. He is also a poet, artist, and author. Brendel is regarded as one of the most thoughtful interpreters of classical Germanic works by such composers as Beethoven, Schubert and Mozart.
