Scenes in London, Dublin and Cork. The Mayor, Tomas (Terence) MacSwiney died after a hunger strike, he is succeeded by Mr. O’Callaghan.
M/S of the coffin being carried through the street past a large crowd held back by Policemen. A bishop and two priests walk into shot, the bishop sprinkles holy water on the coffin. The pallbearers lift the coffin, covered in the Republican flag, into the back of a hearse. M/S of solemn faced men, including one monk, standing in a row behind the hearse, leading the funeral cortege. M/S of the horse drawn hearse going passing through the streets of Cork, men in civilian dress march in an orderly fashion behind it . One of them men shouts orders and they do an about turn and march in a different direction to escort another horse drawn hearse (possibly a mourner’s carriage).
