Early in the Morning was the 3rd single from the Purple in August 1966 – it was a cover of a 1947 field recording of a traditional prison song by Alan Lomax, released in 1959, which can be heard here. This really is a stand out track... after hearing the original track, its a huge leap to this take. Genius.
