TIFF 2023 | ForReel On The Film LIMBO with Writer and Director Ivan Sen

Ivan Sen is the writer and director of the film “Limbo“, which makes its North American premiere at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival. The film stars Simon Baker, Natasha Wanganeen, and Rob Collins. TIFF synopsis: Battling inner demons and a drug addiction, Hurley is in “Limbo“ to reopen the 20-year-old cold case of a murdered Indigenous girl, whose killer may still live locally. Charlotte’s death — and the subsequent apathy of the investigating officers and non-Indigenous community members — are still painfully felt by her sister Emma (Natasha Wanganeen) and brother Charlie (Rob Collins), who both doubt Hurley’s ability to solve the case with so little evidence and community support. In this conversation, Thomas Stoneham-Judge talks with Ivan about the film. We discussed the film’s unique aesthetic and setting as well as the inspiration for the story. We also dive into Ivan’s involvement in bringing indigenous stories to as much public awareness as possible through film, and how he appreciates that his projects are able to get North American exposure through Toronto events like TIFF.
