Message from FOBBV: North Big Bear Landscape Restoration Project #58467 could greatly impact the eagle habitat. The U.S. Forest Service is planning a major landscape restoration project for the entire north side of Big Bear Valley, including where Jackie and Shadow’s nest is. Plans are for large amounts of landscape clearing with prescribed fires, mechanical and hand brush clearing, plus miles of new trails through the habitat. We understand some of the motives and requirements behind their plan, but the Environmental Analysis on it released for public review, sadly has several major flaws in evaluating the impact to bald eagles. The good news is that you can help by making comments to the Forest Service by this Friday (October 22) and it’s easy to do.
