We will start simple, by doing an indoor bike-ride, which should hopefully be an easy pass for the Apple Watches. Next, we will do an indoor run, which might be slightly harder. Then we will make it significantly harder by doing a run outside. This is harder because light is being used to measure your heart rate, you might have seen green or red lights on the bottom of your smartwatch, and the bright light outside might confuse the sensors on the Series 10. And we will close off with two of the hardest exercises, cycling outside and weightlifting. While cycling, the watch has to deal with the light, but also with a lot more bumpiness and tension on my arms. And we will close off with the hardest exercise for a watch to track, weightlifting. When lifting weights there is so much tension on your arm, which makes it super hard for the watch to get a signal. Previous generation Apple Watches generally stop recording heart rate when the tension on my arm gets too big, let’s see if that is also the case now. Hardware-wise the heart rate tracking of the series 10 is more or less identical going as far back as the Series 6. Apple has probably tweaked the firmware over time, squeezing a little bit of performance boosts out of the sensor, but the difference won’t be huge, and many older models likely got these updates too. That being said, the Apple Watch has been such an amazing heart rate tracker for such a long time, that it is hard to improve significantly. Competitors are starting to catch up, but Apple is the OG in super accurate heart rate tracking on the wrist, and their performance hasn’t faltered. So, should you get the Apple Watch Series 10?
