David Bowie ’Width of a Circle’ (+lyrics) HQ 2020 Metrobolist Remix
Metrobolist was the original title of the Man Who Sold The World LP (Nov. 1970), until the label (Mercury) changed it and used the cartoon cover art without Bowie’s consent. The band on the LP, provisionally called The Hype, was basically the Spiders from Mars with producer Tony Visconti on bass. When the band played a short tour in 1970, Angie dressed them up in gaudy, glitter-encrusted superhero costumes, a move that some say originated Glam Rock. The Hype live set included songs from the MWSTW LP, including this track (featuring blistering guitar work from Mick Ronson), which became the centerpiece of the Ziggy Stardust shows, and remained in Bowie’s live set until the end of the Diamond Dogs tour in 1974.
