Cabaret Girls (1961)

Fade into M/S of various girls dressed in Eastern costume dancing in a floor show at Murray’s Cabaret Club in Soho, London; some couples are seen sitting at tables by the crowded dance floor. Fade into M/S of five showgirls in summer dresses in the garden of a country house near Guildford in Surrey; they sit on sun loungers and sip drinks through straws; some of them play croquet; M/S of the back of a girl’s seamed-stockinged legs as she hits a ball. Commentator says the girls come out here “at regular intervals for much needed relaxation in the open air“. At a table in the garden the cabaret club owner Percival Murray sits with the head costume designer and looks at costume sketches and a feathered head-dress. M/S of a woman taking some costumes into a small building in the gardens; inside, several middle-aged women sit sewing cabaret costumes and ornate head-dresses; one sews a skirt in the shape of a roulette table.
