Khazakhstan - Polyakov Lands After Space Record

(23 Mar 1995) T/I: 10:31:28 10:03:36 Record-breaking Russian cosmonaut Valery Polyakov returned to Earth early Wednesday (22/3) after spending more time in space than any other human being: 437 days, 17 hours, 58 minutes and 16 seconds. The 52-year-old marathon space traveler, looking remarkably fit, landed in Kazakhstan, about 45 km (30 miles) northeast of Arkalyk, just after 0400 GMT. He returned with two other crew members from the Russian space station Mir and was whisked away for a week or two of medical tests and reconditioning but not before being warmly greeted by well-wishers.
