In this video, it’s the first 56 bars of the piece “ Song For My Father“, composed by Horace Silver, recorded on October 26, 1964 at the Van Gelder Studio in Englewood Cliffs for the studio album „Song For My Father“. On drums, Roger Humphries. Song For My Father is a jazz standard that features a classic Bossa Nova groove, making it a staple of many jazz drummers’ repertoires. Humphries’ playing on this track is a masterclass in feel, with impeccable timekeeping and a deep understanding of the groove. His use of various sounds adds a unique flavor to the performance.
