The Doors - Tales From the Matrix | Live Thursday at 6:30 P.M. PT from White Rabbit San Francisco

Join The Doors and LIVE AT THE MATRIX 1967: THE ORIGINAL MASTERS liner note writer Joel Selvin at White Rabbit in San Francisco, the former site of the famed Matrix, for an evening celebrating the band’s storied performances from the 7th-11th of March, 1967. The live-streamed event kicks off tonight at 6:30pm PT on The Doors’ official YouTube page. The original recordings, sourced from the first-generation 7” reels, were remastered by longtime Doors engineer Bruce Botnick, but retain the raw energy of those early years. The release includes all 37 songs from the original masters, including “People Are Strange,” “Break On Through (To The Other Side),” “Light My Fire” and more. “They were young, Fresh and unhibited, spreading their wings to fly,” writes Selvin. “The tapes are raw, savage, rough around the edges. This is pure Doors: unselfconscious and unspoiled.” LIVE AT THE MATRIX 1967: THE ORIGINAL MASTERS is now available in a 3-CD box set or an expansive 5-LP set which includes a rare recording of “Bag Groove” pressed on an exclusive 7” single. With an intoxicating, genre-blending sound, provocative and uncompromising songs, and the mesmerizing power of singer Jim Morrison’s poetry and presence, The Doors had a transformative impact not only on popular music but on popular culture. The Doors’ arrival on the rock scene in 1967 marked not only the start of a string of hit singles and albums that would become classics, but also of something much bigger – a new and deeper relationship between creators and audience. Refusing to be mere entertainers, the Los Angeles quartet relentlessly challenged, confronted and inspired their fans, leaping headfirst into the heart of darkness while other bands warbled about peace and love. Though they’ve had scores of imitators, there’s never been another band quite like them.
