When most people hear “elves” they think of Lord of the Rings. However, Tolkien actually borrowed from Nordic mythology for his interpretation of the elves in Middle Earth. Light Elves (Ljósálfar) in Norse literature are often described as beautiful, luminous creatures with pale skin and hair. They had unknown magical powers and were considered gods or demi-gods. We wanted to create a mythical and dream-like tale with our own spin on the concept of Light Elves. We wondered what part music and song might have had in their realm and how that music and the legend of these creatures might have trickled to the realm of humans.
